Process vs. Outcome

It’s very difficult to know how long something will take at the outset.

We have two options: we can set a time limit and ship whatever is done when the timer goes off, or we can put in the work until the product is ready to ship.

Of course, I’m over-simplifying, but those are the options I’m looking at.

When I set out to write daily, I decided I’d publish daily. That turns out to not work for me, at least at this point in time. So, rather than rush to publish sub-standard work, I’ll commit to writing daily, and publishing weekly.

This puts the focus on shipping quality work while maintaining consistency in the process.

The outcome I desire is work that makes a difference. Though not on this blog. Don’t read this blog. The process to get there is to show up every day and put in the reps of converting thoughts to written words, the labor of jamming ideas together in a broken elevator and see what happens.

Deciding not to publish daily takes the pressure off of having to produce something daily that meets my standards. No doubt, once I get a backlog of drafts that begin to come to maturity, I’ll pick up the pace on releasing material.

For now, though, my focus is on process in service of outcome.
